A Year End Wrap Up?
The typical thing you would see from an association President in a December newsletter is a number of "thank you's" and "what an honor it has been to serve you". However, due to a number of circumstances, I am genuinely pleased to say that I will be NIHBA's President again in 2016.
I feel as though a lot was accomplished in 2015. Foundation Sponsorships started and as a result we had some of the greatest programs in recent memory, the website was updated and went through an SEO so that more members of the public can find our members, membership is up (despite national membership being flat and Illinois membership being down), and repairs that have been needed for years at our office were completed. We were proactive in letting our members know about the upcoming Water Sense regulations and about the ridiculous court ruling piercing a builders obligations under the Implied Warranty of Habitability.
However, I can't stop thinking about the things that didn't get done. There are so many great volunteers that give so much of their time to make our industry better, I would simply ask that as the calendar turns to 2016, if you haven't been involved, kindly honor them by bringing in a new member, attend an event or seminar, or join them on a committee. The overwhelming reaction is that you will find it worth your time.
Merry Christmas and cheers to a great 2016!
